The Public Facilities Program Community Savers Fund – City RSL

The Public Facilities Program funds water and energy savings in public and community facilities in NSW. As well as delivering water, energy and greenhouse gas savings, the program aims to showcase technologies in action to encourage uptake by the wider community.
Under the Public Facilities Program, $17.4 million is being provided for 71 Demonstration projects and $10.2 million to 444 Community Savers projects.
Together, this is estimated to save 5.7 billion litres of water, 273,280 megawatt hours of electricity and 265,960 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions in the first ten years.
This will save an expected $5.7 million a year in water and energy bills.
Embracing LED Lighting- LED down light refit at the City of Sydney RSL & Community Club
The City of Sydney RSL and Community Club received funding from the New South Wales Governments Office of Environment & Heritage through the Public Facilities Program Community Savers Fund for a proposal to refit the Clubs 700 Dichoic down light units and respective transformers. The Club will refit the current lighting system, estimated to save 2,321 megawatt hours of electricity and 2,484 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions in the first 10 years.
Introduction & Methodology – Embracing LED Lighting Project
The Club began the project in July 2011 and prior to the refit commencing energy measuring monitors were installed on three levels of the Club’s premises that were deemed to have the most operational use.  Electricity measuring devices (EnviR smart monitors) were installed on the lighting circuits for the ground floor reception, level one and level two. Levels ground, 1 & 2 were selected for the study as these three respective floors have a higher operational use in the day to day operations of the club and importantly, a higher percentage of lights required to be refitted compared to the remaining levels of level five, four, three and the basement levels of the Club.
Floor                                         Light Count
Ground floor & escalator      40
Level 1                                     140
Level 2                                     150
Level 3                                     160
Level 4                                     140
Level 5                                       50

The monitors provided critical data for the study as ‘real time’ energy consumption of the lighting system (Kw/h) was measured which was then recorded weekly and applied within a spreadsheet to present any energy consumption trends that may or may not occur. It is also important to note that after the first four week’s data was recorded (the control measurement) a power management policy was introduced to the clubs employees and contractors to turn off the lights at the end of trade or if a floor was no longer in operation late at night (which averaged approximately four hours ‘lights off ‘per night over the three floors selected for the study).

Week Number            Kw/h Variation
week 1                                   0
week 2                                   5
week 3                                  15
week 4                                   21
week 5                                 -17.25
week 6                                 -112.25
week 7                                 -115.25
week 8                                 -202.25
week 9                                 -431.25
week 10                               -423.25
week 11                               -432.25
week 12                               -440.25
week 13                               -474.25
week 14                               -566.25
week 15                               -697.25
week 16                               -689.25
week 17                               -732.25
week 18                               -796.25
week 19                               -800.25
week 20                               -785.25
week 21                               -770.25
week 22                               -675.25
week 23                               -695.25
week 24                               -696.25

As it may be seen with the trends week by week the energy savings are a significant improvement. It is also important to note that the installation of the lights has contributed to a reduction of the ambient temperature within the ceiling cavities on each floor and a reduction in risk of electrical fires. A dichroic light will reach temperatures of approximately 130 degrees celcius whilst the LED replacement reached a temperature of approximately 30 degrees celcius. It may be reasonable to suggest that the reduction of the ambient temperature will have an impact on the performance of the Club’s Air Conditioning systems resulting in less power consumption of the respective AC plants.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

SMOKING REGULATIONS MONDAY 2ND JULY 2007

Dear Members

From Monday 2nd July 2007, Club City Central will be moving into a smoke-free era within its enclosed areas. This change is an initiative of the NSW govenment and applies to all licenced premises throughout the state. While many will welcome the smoke-free environment, we understand these changes may cause discomfort and inconvenience for some of our members.

The Board values the comfort and enjoyment of all members and has constructed an external area on level 1 and level 4 for the benefit of all.

This new exciting area is a welcome addition to the range of excellent services and facilities offered at your club. We hope that you will come and visit us soon to inspect the new facilities.

In addition to our services and facilities, we continue to offer many great member benefits of being a member including special promotions and member's draws.

We thank you in advance for your support and co-operation. If we can assist you in any other way to make your visits to your club more enjoyable, or if you require further information on these changes, please speak to one of our friendly staff on your next visit.

For sale signage positioned on George Street

The club is currently in the process of selling levels 4 & 5.
The club is currently trading well and will not sell the floors unless our sale expectations are achieved.
The floors are being sold to allow the club to pursue alternate business ventures and to completely remodel and reconfigure levels 1, 2 and 3.
With the Federal Governments pushing for Mandatory Pre Commitment for our gaming customers the club needs to diversify and remodel to allow for any possible negative impacts upon the business.
Please don’t hesitate to contact the Duty Manager or I for further information.

Yours sincerely

Dennis O’Dwyer
Chief Executive Officer
